How to Create Page Templates in Notion
Page templates in Notion help maintain consistent formats for your database entries. Here’s how to create and set a default template:
- Open Your Database
- Navigate to the database where you want to add a template.
- Access the Template Menu
Click the arrow ▼ next to the New button.
Select + New template from the dropdown.
- Design Your Template
Customize Content: Add the icon, cover, properties, layout, text, and elements you regularly use.
Embed a Filtered Linked Database:
Copy Database Link: Click and hold the six dots ⋮⋮ next to any database to copy its link.
Paste as Linked Database: In your template, paste the copied link and select Paste as linked database view.
Apply Dynamic Filter: Configure the filter on the linked database to reference a property of the new page. This ensures the linked view automatically displays content relevant to each new entry created using the template.
- Set as Default Template
Click the arrow ▼ next to the New button again.
In the Templates menu, hover over your new template.
Click the three dots (⋯) and choose Set as default.
- Use Your Default Template
- Now, clicking the New button will automatically apply your default template, ensuring each new entry follows the same structure.
- (Optional) Set Up Recurring Pages
In the Templates menu, hover over your template and click the three dots (⋯).
Select Repeat and choose the desired frequency (e.g., daily, weekly).
This will automatically create new pages based on the template at your selected intervals, perfect for regularly scheduled entries.
Benefits
Uniformity: Ensures all entries have a similar format.
Efficiency: Quickly create new pages without setting up each one from scratch.
Personalization: Tailor templates with specific icons, covers, and embedded views to fit your workflows and make them easily identifiable.
